The Burnet Flag Another flag which flew over the Republic of Texas is the Burnet Flag, named for David Burnet the first President of the Republic of Texas. The Burnet Flag bears a single gold star, and is also a solid blue field This flag was suggested in 1836 by President David G. Burnet, and was adopted by the first Texas Congress on December 10, 1836. The Burnet flag was the second flag to fly over the Republic of Texas, and was flown from 1836 until 1839, when the Lone Star Flag was adopted.
